Leah Daniels- Butler
Executive Casting Director and owner of LDB Casting
With an eye for talent, casting director and producer Leah Daniels-Butler is responsible for launching the careers of many of today’s most successful actors, including that of Gaborey Sidebe who was introduced to the world in her starring role in the Academy Award winning film “Precious”. Leah’s selection of the young starlet proved to be a good one as Sidebe’s career has continued to thrive. Leah got her start in the early 90’s working as a casting assistant to legendary casting director and mentor Jaki Brown and Kimberly Hardin where she assisted in casting actor/recording artist “Tyrese” Gibson in the Coca-Cola ad that ultimately launched his career. He too would embark upon a promising career and go on to star in two extremely successful movie franchises, “Transformers” & “Fast & Furious”.
Additionally, Leah is credited for her work on film classics like “CB4” starring Chris Rock, “The Inkwell” with Larenz Tate and the cult classic “Friday” starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. It was in the mid 90’s, when doors began to fly open and Leah after landing the coveted position as assistant to Leslie Litt, Senior VP of Casting at Warner Brothers (WBTV). Leah’s work ethic and reputation for “getting the job done” quickly spread among black filmmakers and throughout the entire entertainment industry making her the “It Girl” of casting. It wasn’t long before she would rise in rank to become the casting executive! In this elevated space she worked on award-winning projects such as “Friends” starring Jennifer Anniston and “Suddenly Susan” starring Brooke Shields. Both shows earned Primetime Emmy Awards for acting roles. During her tenure at Warner Brothers, Leah also cast “The Wayans Brothers” and “For Your Love,” which received six NAACP Image Awards nominations. An Entrepreneur at heart and armed with her God given talent, years of experience, a good reputation and strong relationships, Leah leaves WBTV and starts LDB Casting, the company she owns and operates today located at Gower studios.
As an independent casting director, Leah works across genres securing talent for films like “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Shadow Boxer,” “ATL,” and “The Paperboy,” which featured an all-star cast that included: Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, John Cusack, Macy Grey and David Oyelowo. In 2013, Leah cast the award-winning film “The Butler” with another all-star line-up that included: Oprah Winfrey, Forrest Whitaker, Liev Shreiber, Robin Williams, James Marsden, John Cusack, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrence Howard and rising star YaYa DaCosta.
Among her many accolades, Leah is the recipient of the Hamilton Award for Outstanding Casting for her work on “The Butler,” she also earned the Casting Society of America’s “Outstanding Achievement in Casting for a Television Drama” award for her work on “Empire.” Leah was on the board of directors for CSA 2016 & 2017, as the only African American board member at that time. In 2017, she was elected to be on the Casting Pier Group Committee for the Television Academy.
Passionate about the fight for equality and diversity in the industry, Leah’s voice has been heard on several platforms, advocating, giving commentary and leading discussions centered around diversity and inclusion, including going all the way to Capitol Hill in 2017, to address the issues concerning the lack of roles for actors with disabilities. In that same year, Leah was honored by Variety Magazine and recognized in their inclusion impact report.
Leah capped off a very successful year with the announcement that she along with music executive and producer husband, Henry “Black” Butler founded the 1Oneninety5 Media Group (named to commemorate their wedding date). The 1Oneninety5 Media Group, is a global, full service multimedia company leading through innovative platforms and diverse industry partnerships. The powerhouse husband and wife duo has formed a team of high performing execs with unparalleled experience in the areas of Business admin, marketing, production and finance to help bring the vision to life.
Ka’ramuu Kush
Filmmaker
Native Detroiter Ka’ramuu Kush earned his reputation as a consistent creator of independent underground short form cinema, with a focus on women’s stories, before earning top honors at AFI Conservatory.
At heart, he is a guerilla filmmaker with roots in NY theatre. Working under the aegis of the legendary theatre producer Woodie King, Jr., his earlier theatre work is marked by a number of directorial assignments and lead roles in plays that include ‘Malcolm X’ in the 15th anniversary production of Laurence Holder’s WHEN THE CHICKENS CAME HOME TO ROOST, originating the role of ‘TJ’ in Robert O’Hara’s INSURRECTION and portraying ‘King Akhenaten’ in his own solo drama kA. After completing studies at AFI and upon the encouragement of his mentor Sir Sidney Poitier, he made his critically acclaimed return to the stage in the title role of Shakespeare’s PERICLES followed by the lead role of ‘Elijah McCoy’ in the U.S. premiere of Andrew Moodie’s THE REAL MCCOY, both at The Black Rep in St. Louis. He flows seamlessly between the worlds of theatre and film by maintaining work in both.
Performing at the top of his class while at AFI, he earned numerous distinctions inclusive of the Frances Williams Artists Grant, Hewlett Packard Scholarship, Daniel J. Petrie Fellowship, Fujifilm Production Grant and Caucus Foundation Post-Production Grant for his AFI thesis film SALVATION ROAD. Subsequently, it was acquired by HBO and made its television debut on the network in 2012, continuing to screen on the network and at film festivals internationally.
He was honored by the National Organization of Black Directors with their Emerging Director of Motion Pictures Award and the Pan African Film Festival as its Filmmaker-In-Residence in addition to being named amongst the Top 20 Filmmakers of Color by IMDB.com for his independent vision filmmaking promise.
Larry O. Williams Jr.
Talent Manager and owner of Williams Talent Management
Larry O. Williams (Jr.) was born in the Entertainment business, Larry started his professional acting career at the age of 6. By the age of 17, Larry had gathered over 45 television credits, was considered for an Emmy, starred in dozens of television shows, starred in an Emmy winning television special and was a Series regular in HBO’s first scripted show First and Ten.
Even with such success and strong industry relationships, Larry chose to receive his education first. Larry left the secure confines of Hollywood for the prestige of attending the University of San Diego on a full baseball scholarship. After 4 consecutive All-Conference record setting seasons and 2 All American honors, Larry completed his undergraduate studies and turned down a professional baseball career to pursue his love, but not without obtaining his B.A. from University of San Diego in Communications and a M.A. from the University of Southern California in Brand and Communication Management.
As a young actor and businessman, Larry is nurtured by such Executives as Troy Carter, Topper Carew and Stan Lathan, Larry expanded his involvement in Hollywood to include writing, producing and acting. In spite of his successes, Larry answered a higher call to maximize his skill sets at the world renown William Morris Talent Agency.
At William Morris, Larry created Larowil Entertainment Focusing on Talent & Television packaging. Before promoting to Agent, Larry worked for several key executives, including the President of Worldwide Network Packaging, the Vice President of Motion Picture Literary, a V.P. of Talent, & the Vice President in Television Syndication. After 3 years of intense training, Larry was promoted to Agent but chose Management as a better platform to achieve complete diversification. On a referral, Larry was led to Erving Wonder /Sanctuary Management. As a manager and under the supervision of Troy Carter (Lady Gaga) and Matthew Knowles (Beyonce/Destiny’s Child), Larry had consistent success assisting in the careers of such industry vets as Eve, Angie Stone, Floetry, Jadakiss and Actors Leila Arcieri (“Manchurian Candidate”) and Idris Alba. After just 1 year, Larry left Erving Wonder / Sanctuary Management to start his own indie shingle –The Williams Talent Agency.
Within 2 years, Williams Talent Agency became the largest minority owned full-service Talent Agency in the world! Williams Talent Agency represented some of the most highly regarded talent in the business today. Including but not limited to: the Producer of Def Comedy Jam and BET’s comedy show One Mic, 1 Academy Award Winner, 1 Golden Globe winner, 2 Emmy Winners, 2 Ovation Award Winners, 3 NAACP Award Winners, 5 Broadway performers, 1 Tony nominee, 1 Stella Award winner and 7 platinum selling performers! In addition to talent representation, WTA has also entered into the world of Television & Film packaging, and personal appearance for nationally touring comedians packaging the film “Tons of Love.”
In 2018, Larry partnered with Henry & Leah Daniels-Butler to merge Williams Talent Management with Connect Global, LLC to integrate talent management, brand management, marketing, packaging and production efforts via shingle 1oneninety5 Productions.
